Our Yoga Classes: Supporting Strength, Mobility, and Mindfulness

At Russell Health Collective, we offer a variety of yoga classes and longer form practice workshops tailored to all levels and abilities. Each class is designed to support both the body and mind, with an emphasis on mindfulness, movement, and breathwork. Here’s a closer look at the types of yoga we offer:

1. Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is one of the most popular styles of yoga. It’s a gentle, slow-paced practice that focuses on basic postures and alignment. This style is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to build a solid foundation in yoga. In Hatha Yoga, we will guide you through a series of poses (asanas), helping you to develop strength, flexibility, and balance at your own pace.

Hatha Yoga is also a great way to cultivate mindfulness. Each class is designed to encourage body awareness, breathing techniques, and relaxation. It’s a wonderful way to release stress and promote inner peace.

2. Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga, also known as "flow" yoga, is a dynamic and energizing practice that links breath with movement. In a Vinyasa class, we flow through a sequence of postures, moving with intention and rhythm. This style of yoga is excellent for building strength, flexibility, and stamina, while also increasing cardiovascular fitness.

Vinyasa Yoga is perfect for those who want to challenge themselves physically and mentally. The fluid movements and continuous flow of poses will leave you feeling energized and focused.

3. Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slower-paced practice that targets the deep connective tissues of the body, including ligaments, tendons, and fascia. In a Yin Yoga class, you will hold poses for several minutes at a time, allowing your body to gently release tension and increase flexibility. This restorative practice is ideal for those looking to improve joint health, relieve deep-seated tension, and relax the body.

Yin Yoga encourages mindfulness and introspection, providing a meditative aspect to your practice. It’s perfect for those who want to slow down, recharge, and connect with their inner selves.

4. Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is a deeply relaxing practice that focuses on rest and healing. In a Restorative class, props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks are used to support the body in passive poses, allowing you to fully relax and release tension. This style of yoga is designed to reduce stress, promote relaxation, and restore balance to the body and mind.

Restorative Yoga is great for those who are dealing with chronic stress, fatigue, or injury. It’s also an excellent practice for anyone seeking to unwind and reconnect with their body on a deeper level.

5. Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga is a specially designed practice that supports the physical and emotional needs of expectant mothers. This gentle practice focuses on strengthening and stretching key muscles that support pregnancy, as well as enhancing breathing and relaxation techniques for childbirth. Prenatal Yoga can help reduce pregnancy-related discomforts, such as back pain, hip tension, and swelling.

In addition to physical benefits, Prenatal Yoga also provides emotional support, helping mothers-to-be connect with their bodies and their growing babies. The focus on breath-work and mindfulness helps prepare for labor and encourages a calm, focused mind for delivery.

Why Yoga is Beneficial for Your Physical and Mental Health

Yoga offers a wide range of physical, emotional, and mental health benefits. Here are just a few of the many reasons why yoga can be so beneficial for your well-being:

1. Stress Relief

Yoga is known for its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. By focusing on deep breathing, mindful movement, and body awareness, yoga encourages the body to relax, reduce muscle tension, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the "rest and digest" mode). This helps counteract the stress response and promotes a sense of calm and tranquility.

2. Improved Flexibility and Mobility

Regular yoga practice can increase your flexibility and improve joint mobility. By holding and stretching different postures, yoga helps lengthen the muscles and improve the range of motion in your joints. This is especially helpful for those who experience stiffness from prolonged sitting, physical activity, or age-related limitations.

3. Enhanced Strength and Balance

Yoga engages every muscle group in the body, building both strength and endurance. From holding plank poses to performing standing postures, yoga strengthens muscles, enhances core stability, and improves balance. This makes it an excellent complement to other forms of exercise, such as strength training or cardio.

4. Increased Mindfulness and Self-Awareness

One of the core principles of yoga is mindfulness—being present in the moment. Through focused breath-work and attention to posture, yoga helps cultivate self-awareness and teaches you to listen to your body. This mindfulness practice can extend beyond the mat, helping you develop greater emotional resilience, better focus, and a sense of inner peace.

Our yoga classes and workshops at Russell Health Collective are designed to be inclusive and welcoming, regardless of your experience level or fitness background. Emma, our experienced yoga instructor, creates a warm and supportive environment where you can explore your practice, feel empowered, and work towards your personal health goals.

Currently, we offer 90-minute workshops, allowing plenty of time for each participant to relax, connect with their body, and deepen their practice with a little more education, guidance and coaching than a traditional shorter yoga class.
